Shadows

I would never take the spotlight from you
I will follow your shadow, I already do
If you fall behind, I’ll a clear path to get through
No obstructions shall impede your view
In your honor, I’d erect a statue
That’s probably something you already knew
A shadow always exposes what’s true
Just look how long my shadow grew

Love Is Always On

It’s the age of constant distraction
Beauty defined by plastic fashion
Such savagery over the next caption
Going to extremes to prove an action
Hate on the menu for us to ration
One kiss you’ll learn he fakes the passion
His love is always on automation
An impeccable liar, the best in the nation
A list of broken souls should be confirmation of his vocation
He’s never been out of rotation
I hope death will be his next vacation

If These Were Last Moments

I don’t know if this will get through to you
I don’t know that I can quilt the right words
If these were last moments I’d run out of fuel
Now’s a good time to listen while still

Surrounded by people, unsound energies accrue
Negative actions come at you in herds
They’ll tell you a diamond doesn’t start out a jewel
Poisoned so slowly you never feel ill

Whispers and laughters “we know you’ll pull through”
On and on it’s always pain you move towards
I guess I’d want you to know you are cruel
For inviting me to climb then kicking me downhill

Gavin Rossdale Visits The Kevin & Bean Morning Show

The Kevin & Bean Show recently interviewed lead singer of Bush, Gavin Rossdale.

I submitted a question to KROQ and they delivered it to Gavin around 9 minutes in of this interview. I was uncertain that they would even use my question because it is such a somber subject and Gavin was on air likely to talk about the upcoming new album and new tour. The host told Gavin that it was a really nice compliment, and Gavin replied wow, that’s beautiful. He went on to share a really personal memory and his feelings on the matter. He then directly speaks to me by saying my name (Delia), telling me he thought what I said was beautiful and he made me a promise.

I’ve been following Gavin since the early 90s when Bush emerged. I’ve been part of the alternative scene since then too, and the city I lived in at the time was nothing but country and back roads (the alt scene was not hip or popular there).

I’ve lived through the loss of Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Chris Cornell, Scott Weiland (and so many more I cherish) through drugs and suicide. With Keith Flint of Prodigy having just died by suicide (and knowing all the terrible things that Gavin has recently gone through), it absolutely made me worry.

So Gavin’s promise to me means a great deal. He never says anything he doesn’t mean. Every moment I’ve had with him is to be cherished. He’s my hero, he’s my muse. He gives me light in an otherwise dark world. Watching him go through his own trials and tribulations have given me strength and encouragement to go on, he teaches me lessons that would go unlearned. I too am like a wolf, a lone wolf anyway. I prefer coywolf because I am a half-breed.

This interview is amazing because he shares such personal insight on very somber matters. But it’s even more special to me because of his promise he makes to me.

I’m honored he finds my words beautiful of him, he deserves beautiful things. You guys should go catch him on tour and join the Bush Army bandwagon. I’m praying for miracles that I can see them for my birthday, as they will be here!

(Praying for some eBay sales, gotta pay my ride first tho)! Thank you to everyone who has bought me Bush tickets these past couple years. Indebted to you.

If you want to know what makes me happy, this is one of them. “This cloud, this cloud, this cloud…”

Tight Ropes

Such tight ropes we weave and trample
A love like yours I deserve to sample
Your flame is brighter than any candle
There’s not much that we couldn’t handle

I’ve never seen a face like yours
I’ve seen them all and lived through war
Walked every land, touched distant shores
You’re the only body I want to explore

Won’t Bring Him Back (Lyrics)

In these pages he’s alive
In these words we do survive
In these moments nothing but time
Memories without a hard drive
We get by, we drive, we fly

No suffering when amongst a friend
But these words won’t bring him back again
No these words won’t bring him back again

The days on pages never end
The nights play out as you intend
He’ll heed the call when you contend

But these words won’t bring him back again
Said these words won’t bring him back
No these words won’t bring me back

Cyanide

Every minute peels across my pride
Seething into cracks where it may hide
His words poison worse than cyanide
Just remember his heart already died

Unto the moon I do confide
A confidant down by the roadside
He uses pain like trails to be a guide
Reaching him requires more than stride

A sign on the door reads “occupied”
It’s partially true but somewhere a lie
Pictures of smiles and times that we cried
Hidden from view and a prying eye

The Tale and Trauma of Satine

Satine was born in the dark ages, a very long time ago in the township of “Blackwood” whereto her mother had lived and died.
Unbeknownst of her parents, her mother died during childbirth of Satine. Her mother had been bitten by a vampire while Satine was still in the wound.
Satine never knew of her mother and father, and was abandoned as a child, for the people feared her or what she may become. She was sent away to live in the Carpathian Mountains far away.
There she became skilled amongst her powers, training in martial arts, strategic war tactics, and healing.

A thing of abandonment seeped fear in her heart.
Presumably, her vampiric father watched over her, for Satine had dreams and visions that would abound her. Did he want her dead? Was he in attendance to help her, psychologically?
During her training, she met a Prince by the name of Vladimir. He would teach her many things, among philosophy and majik. Vlad seemed notable of the people, high in court. Yet feared among many.

This brought desire in Satine to return to her home village, learn of its people, of her mother’s grave (hidden behind the church), and seek out her father.

Part human, part vampire, part light, part dark, Satine may prove to be the savior of her village. Upon her arrival, she found the people in disarray. Panic reigned here. Blood towered the streets. Trusty no one was.
Satine seeks love, part of her human condition. She may be vilified by its admission.
She grows week with apathy, bloodlust, and a demoniac affiliation.
She sleeps beyond the church in her mother’s shallow grave.

“Remember, sometimes you need the dark to battle the dark. So do not discourage those who suffer from its apathy.” – Satine

No Pretense

You say there’s no reason for our unfriending
But why do I feel like it’s always near ending
We never even got a proper beginning
There’s always another you are attending
And here I go with more words of offending
I wish these messages I would stop sending
Or maybe more kindness from you is worth lending
If you are confused I am too comprehending
These situations that keep us from ascending
I’ll do what I can to keep from descending
I’m grateful for you and will go on defending
Thank you for allowing my childish venting
At least you’ll never find me pretending

Gold Rush

His smile is a compass
Or lighthouse that guides me home
A permanent road where I’m free to roam
All enemies who enter he’ll crush

When I’m lost and all alone
I feel a sudden gentle brush
And smell a scent not like cologne
My senses ignite like a gold rush

He stands there like a stone
Fully aware he’s on his throne
My voice once loud now hush
Who needs flowers when your cheeks are flush

An Ode To Dawn

Down by the water
I saw her fall
Dawn by the river
She knew it all

She wore mourning
like a night dress
She was the absolute best

Her blue eyes could put you to the test
She always wore mourning best

Dawn by the ocean
She works best in motion
Her and I caused so much commotion

Down she falls
Dawn she calls
We fall like dolls
When Dawn she calls

Down by the water
She works harder
Dawn was smarter
She was my armor

I lost Dawn by the water
I was left alone to falter
I still call on her
Down by the water

Ironclad

You can’t navigate the future by ignoring the past
It’s quick like lightning, our lives flash by so fast
If we don’t steer straight, might get lost in the vast
Nothing’s ironclad and we’re not built to last
Hate is bred, love can’t be forecast

Even now my mood has already passed
Though you never thought to even ask
Why my smile is hidden underneath your mask
To carry it alone is quite a challenging task
But thanks for allowing me under you to bask

Love and Liquor

Tossing out all these dead flowers
Wondering how I lost so many hours
All my fears his soul devours
I wish I had her superpowers

Bonded to insomniac dreams
Getting further lost in the crowd it seems
No matter where he moves light beams
Time is borrowed and never redeems

A number to him and a number to her
My first twenty years it seems were a blur
Chasing adventure with love and liquor
Regret and denial would only occur

I’m sadder now than I ever was before
I’ve healed myself from wounds of your war
Silence a battleground I rather abhor
I don’t even know what I was looking for

Close To You (song)

Why can’t I be close to you
What is it I am suppose to do
Why can’t I be close to you
What is it you want me to do

Why can’t I be?
Why can’t I be close to you close to you
Why can’t I be?

I know you’re watching me
I see you pop up in my feed
I don’t know what it’s suppose to mean
I wish you’d throw a sign at me

Why can’t I be close to you
What is it I am suppose to do
Why can’t I be close to you
What is it you want me to do

Why can’t I be close to you
Why can’t I get through to you
Why can’t I talk to you
Why can’t I get through to you

I can’t just walk away
Though you ignore me I still say “hey”
I don’t always know what to say
My body begs for me to stay

Why can’t I be close to you
What is it I am suppose to do
Why can’t I be close to you
What is it you want me to do

The signals that you send
They confuse me
Pierce right through me
I don’t want it to end

Not Your Valentine

I know I’m not the girl for you
I still wish you were someone I knew
I only wish good things for all you do
I hope you get the girl of your dreams too

I know you are busy but you are always on my mind
I’ve tried to replace you about a million times
There are always too many hills to climb
I know I’m old but I’m still in my prime

I wish one day I could be your valentine
For just a day or two
It’d be enough to be around you
And just kill some time
Cuz I know you will never be mine
And there’s not much I can do

© Delia Ross. 2019

Captive

I’d join your corps
Your lips can be the shore
I’m open to explore

The boat can capsize
Kisses instead of cries
Not many words we’ll vocalize

Are you ready for more
Something you’ve never had before
I want it all plus an encore

Forget that cigarette
We don’t need a corvette
Tho I would go into debt

Held captive under no demand
I’ve never been to his homeland
I heard he even has a band

Days on end I go no sleep
There’s treasures in the ocean deep
If he’s the farmer, we are his sheep

Every Episode

I get lost in the hours escaping on the road
Carrying more weight than what should be towed
Doing all I can to escape my own abode
Drifting and changing every channel that is showed
But you are still in every episode
And it’s really made my mind explode
Maybe you could give me a lighter lode?
I’m certain you have the antidote?
This feels totally out of my control
So maybe before I mispoke
I’d gladly pay you whatever is owed
Can you just ring me on the telephone?
You already know my area code
I’m ready to adjust to any mode

Let’s go!

Atmosphere

It can disappear as quickly as it can appear
I won’t even need to yell all clear
It only takes seconds for my heart to veer
I don’t need you in my atmosphere
I won’t even shed a tear
Only the worthy are allowed here
Feel free to harbor all your fear
You’ll soon find it’ll grow more severe
Your happiness fading each year
A bleak existence your only frontier
But I will never reappear
I bid you farewell my dear

Last Rites

I think I’ve lost my appetite
Please administrator my last rites
Say a prayer or improvise
Say it quick before I die
My breath has ceased, my chest is tight
Love feels like a parasite
My friend she broke to suicide
Now in no one I can confide
But in him I see the light
It feels alot like paradise
If I don’t cool down I might ignite!
It’s possible I might die tonight
Please administrator my last rites
I surrender, there’s no will to fight

My Son Part 3: Half of Her Life

“The being he’s been waiting for has just opened her eyes.
There was a feeling of dread, but not a look of surprise.
He knew her at first site but she did not know his face,
He had his work cut out for him, her memory to replace.
A man who was a monster had perfected an art,
to bring back the dead and do it with just one body part.
Her husband had brought in a container of red,
and there was no touch of guilt or second thought in his head.
He would have her love,
the one who went away.
The one who made a promise,
half of her, the body, but the mind decayed.
And as the weeks past, he fed her the past.
But the scars on her wrists were given no fact,
He said she must got them from broken windows or barbed wire,
the blood covered furniture and clothes went into the fire.
She ate it all up and her husband was content,
He didn’t have it all, but it was worth what he spent.
But every so often, his memory took him to,
the horrible consequences of the life he would choose.
But he would still have her love,
and he would get her back slowly.
She would forget her promise,
half of her, man-made, and surely unholy.
But she always grew restless when he wasn’t around.
When she closed her eyes and tried hard no explanation was found.
Then wandered into a room where the standing mirror was stashed,
and too her surprise, it wasn’t her in the glass.
But it looked as if it was a younger look-a-like.
And the image moved it lips, spoke and had a voice like a spike.
She would show off her arms and reveal no scars,
and she’d tell her of the real reason that her memories depart.
“He just wanted your love;
did he mention your son?
I can see not by the look in your eyes”
Half of her, other in the mirror, she couldn’t shun.
She confronted her husband with the story she heard,
and he just stood still and spoke not a word.
And without even thinking twice gathered all the mirrors,
and locked them in the basement to hide from his fears.
And in fury, he jumped on her, strangled her, bashed her head.
But you know you can’t kill what is already dead!
The tears in his eyes, he couldn’t bare that she knew the truth,
He passed out from exhaustion and she took him to his room.
He just wanted her love,
and now it was falling apart.
But she wandered to the basement of mirrors,
Half-and-half brought together from the dark.
He awoke and the memories came back,
so slow he had to catch his breath.
But he heard laughing in the dining room,
He rushed into to see pictures of a bride and groom.
His lovely wife regained her mind,
and forgave her love for she knew he meant right.
And they sat together and laughed without shivers,
looking for hours at wedding pictures.
He just wanted her love,
and he had found it at last.
The deeds may have been in sin,
More or less, who’s to guess?
With or without a son,
they sealed their love with a kiss.
Because the promise was built on their love,
two halves, sown together, at the wrists”.

Grant me a Pardon

I say goodbye for him
I climb mountains with a broken limb
Battered down and wounded still I can feel
Do all I can to fully disappear
I’ve got him on my mind all the time still
And he’ll never know I was even here –

Attending to his garden
Watching his heart harden
Wishing I were less of a burden
If only he’d grant me a pardon
Please speak to the warden
But he hates me I am certain

Made of Steel

Lay down your guards
I’ll lay down my shield
I’m not here to wound
To punish or kill

Distance can be measured in yards
There is still so much that I haven’t revealed
Place a new bet or just lay down your cards
Everything must be of our own free will

I’ve been getting drunk on the wrong boulevards
Spending time lost, crying and roaming the field
Most of the time I forget to send my regards
Too broken and shattered and trying to heal

Everyone warned me that life would be hard
Your death opened wounds that never have healed
I’m just a gal that most disregards
Or maybe they think we’re all made of steel

Ghost Town

His words like weights dragging me down
I never knew words could create such a storm
I’m pretty certain he’d rather not have me around
I know he’s cold but I’m still so warm

We are headed right for ghost town
You better turn around
We’re headed for ghost town
It’s a cold, cold battleground

Don’t you want to be found?
Will you please make a sound?

I guess love is an art form?

These Lessons Again And Again These Lessons

It’s going to keep coming around and around it keeps going
Over and over these lessons harden and are gaining speed and growing
You’d think by now we’d get it, but these lessons keep on flowing

It’s different now but maybe it would have been better never knowing
Nothing will ever hide these wrinkles on my forehead from showing
There might have been a warning when he heard the bird crowing
Damn, you see, it’s just another universal omen
But is he aware that time for me is gradually slowing

These lessons, these lessons keep on coming
These lessons, these lessons keep on coming

The Best Things In Life Aren’t Free

The best things in life aren’t free
But please don’t bother me
I changed the lock and key
It’s best if you now flee

He bled her clean
Filled images in her head
The young ones he will preen
And bleed them til they’re dead

The best things in life aren’t free, he said
With not even a look of dread
She knows it’s nothing she misread
His love trap is a deathbed
Miles and decades of lies widespread
But not an ounce of bloodshed

The worst things in life are free
And you’ll never remember me
I sat there clawing blindly
In the forest at the wrong tree
Because the worst things in life
Always seem to follow me

My Son Part 2: The Note Beneath His Pillow

“My darling husband, I can’t look at your face,
I made a promise but it went to waste.
The lovely day when we became one,
and the lovely night when we planned our son.
But now I’ve never felt so low before,
I don’t want to look in your eyes anymore.
I saw your pain when you heard the news,
we asked God for another but he must have refused.
And all I wanted was to carry your name,
now I hide my head in shame.
And your face that day in my mind remains;
I’m not even a woman anymore.

The one that I knew could carry my soul,
the one who could shield me from the cold.
You lent me all that you had inside,
I tried to give him to you, you know that I tried.
I saw you crying as I came to,
Losing myself was all I could do.
I never looked right at you again,
I regret it now, since you needed a friend.
And all I wanted was to carry your name,
now I hide my head in shame.
And your face that day in my mind remains;
I’m not even a woman anymore.

And I was wallowing and rolling in the pool of blood,
The Rivers that originated from me would flood.
All I tasted and felt was the death,
of my baby boy who would never have breath.
I cried for you, baby; I cried for you in fright,
Years went by in that one horrid night.
Would we ever be the same? Would we ever smile?
Would I ever get over it? Am I too fragile?
And all I wanted was to carry your name,
now I hide my head in shame.
And your face that day in my mind remains;
I’m not even a woman anymore.

Things are a little more clear now;
there is a sense of peace in the solution I found.
Strange I choose to bathe in blood;
again, it might as well be mud.
And soon I’ll rest in the dirt with the worms,
and never again feel this heart that burns.
I may be letting you down again,
but it’s only one more time, you were my very best friend.
And all I wanted was to carry your name,
now I hide my head in shame.
And your face that day in my mind remains;
I’m not even a woman anymore.”

List of Regrets

I don’t want to wind up on your list of regrets
Or played as a game from a stupid bet
When you come around my heart beats out of my chest
I always tried to hide it but my body tends to sweat
Even when I’m down you make me feel like an asset
Laughter is a crown & you make me do it best
Watching you smile is like admiring a sunset
And something I’ll never take for granted
I hope of me you’ll never forget

Lessons

When you’ve waited all day for the night to arrive
And only at midnight you’ll let yourself cry
You never even got around to goodbye
These lessons get harder to learn each time

I would never give him such a hill to climb
I would never treat him unkind
They all want someone younger and more in their prime
Sadly for me I’m only left with more rhyme

Night Riding (Lyrics)

I need a lover not an enemy
Someone to go night riding with me
I feel another storm rising
We’ve wasted too much time deciding

I know where this road goes
I know where this storm blows
I know where this road goes
I know where this storm blows

The radio advises staying in
But who are they advising?
All these years we stayed hiding
There’s no other reason presiding

I know where this road goes
I know where this storm blows
I know where this road goes
I know where this storm blows

Sat in a corner despising
Why are you backsliding
Right now the Moon is rising
Our plans won’t need much revising

I want to go with you night riding
Stop wasting time deciding
Let’s go while the wind is subsiding
I want to go with you night riding

Things of Note by PoeEternal

Bits of pieces here & there. Thoughts. Ideas. Microwords.

I feel like watching you smile is one of the most beautiful things I can witness in life.

If you can’t have it, dream about it. Fantasize. Talk to yourself. Loneliness is a state, not a being. Be one with it.

Love. Even when you can’t.

Forgiveness isn’t hard. Ego is.

You’re one second away from being older. Cherish the new.

The walls we build around us to keep the sadness out also keeps out the joy.

I swear on my soul every time you smile a new galaxy is born. I can feel the after shocks in my heart. Even the Sun has sworn. Look how it shines on you.

You wear revenge on your heart.

Black soul, Black hole
Not much of a difference I know
Like a mold it will grow

It’s not too late to finish what you started.

Feasting on single lane, leaving darkness for tomorrow
Getting wasted on joy instead, I’m sick of all this sorrow
Skipping down single lane, I’ve nothing you can borrow

LOVE IS THE GREATEST CROWN, There’s no trouble here this part of town

He’s my favorite season of them all.

Everyone keeps asking me what it is I do. Well, I’m in the pursuit for happiness. Aren’t you?

Oh my tummy tum tum
Is growling like it wants some rum
I guess I better give it some….

You give what you take and you take what you give
I’m so tired of this mourning and I just want to live

Taking a break from my woes.

Did you know you could break me like glass?

Empty as a bottle.

Sometimes I need someone to disconnect with.

So evading these lines
I’ve tried to forget a thousand times
Feeling better about end days
And even less about rhyme

His voice puts movement in my heart.

But this one cut me deep like steel
I don’t know if I can ever heal

It hurts
These years they tend to cut
More challenges than it’s worth

It’s like a gunshot to the soul
CRUSH

Boys & misfortune are of most importance

Make me immortal so I can sleep forever.

My moral compass may be broken.

More cancelled invitations
I get the most in the nation

Shots of rum in my freezer
Make me less of an appeaser

I’m working on borrowed time.

I’m ready, not able
I’m under the weather and need to get stable

On and on silence is your war

He uses love like a seed
To pit in you jealousy & greed

To fight so hard for freedom
Years for liberty
Can anyone see me?

Lu once told me, all I had to do was prey.

Said you never loved
and you love me now
But you’re saying that
As you’re saying ciao

I left him lying
The trouble with love it’s trying
But don’t stick it out with a man who keeps you crying
His mouth is rot he’ll only keep denying
That’s his plan to slowly watch you dying
I never met a beast more terrifying

But why do good girls always come last?

My heart is a poet. Every beat is a syllable. Poetry its soul. I am but a poem waiting to be rhymed. Slow goes it.

You’ll soon be guest of honor at the crematorium.

Pain may appear closer in mirror.

Actually, I’m not angry. I’m fueled with intelligence and wit. I will smack thee with a mirror and say BEHOLD, SCUM. CLEAN THYSELF! 😉

Love Like Russian Roulette

His love is like Russian Roulette
For all he’s had and still not found love yet
Under his reign I had many debts
The lost and wounded are his favorite pet’s
Losing you won’t give him any regrets
He’s already forgotten you I bet

His love was like Russian Roulette
It doesn’t matter if they are blond or brunette
He’s not interested in her silhouette
Once he’s hooked you he’ll enjoy a cigarette
Making them cry is his largest asset
The only way to go no contact is to move to Tibet
