Excuses

Excuses are the only thing people will proudly show
And if the perception ever shifts, it’s into a direction they never grow
And if you ask them questions they always reply that they don’t know
And if you ask for help they’ll point to a direction you can go

They’ll tell you their mind is open when really it is closed
And when it comes to your life they will be always be brown-nosed
If you peek in their direction you can see their fears exposed
It’s a dog-eat-dog world where sensibility decomposed

You know these types right? They always have their nose in your business? They have your life completely figured out and don’t understand why you don’t? They always look at you with the intent to find fault. And they will even poke and prod you until you bite them and then they scream, “that dog is crazy, it bit me!!!!” Even though the dog is completely tame and loyal and will only bite in self-defense. They always have someone to aid their defense, “yeah, that dog bit her!!!” But the fact is the dog would have never bit if you hadn’t fucked with her… and that is why we have fences so stop jumping my fence and poking me then crying “crazy” when I bite. Grab a mirror, get in the fucking sea already. I don’t have a history of violence or crazy so try again. But, whatever makes you sleep better at night, right? I’ll tell you what makes me fucking sleep, weed. It also helps me not give a shit that you’re such a fucking asshole.

Twilight

Tuck me into twilight
Let your lips touch my dreams
Your love is the skylight
And hopeful are its streams

The Moon is a spotlight
Where you can find my love every night
And every star in the sky –
The amount of times you made me sigh

I love you through all eternal
I will always be your angel
Unto you I will be faithful
This love is yours to cradle

Cowardice

Wrap it tight, wrap it snug
Insert love with every word
Never rushed, never slurred
Ensuring messages are always heard

Now take the love and cut in thirds
Put on blinds so eyes are blurred
Gift denial so minds are stirred
Undo connections and act absurd

Destroy the paths, silence preferred
Hide in the dark, act a coward
Give them doubt to march toward
Give them pain where love was stored

Marigolds

She knows not what she is holding
An infancy of love he is hoping
I can see his galaxy growing
While her orbit is slowing

Crown jewels are in his eyes, blue as skies
His hands belong with truth, never lies

His hair is a field of dreams
On which sunlight beams

She knows not what she scolds
He passes hope out like marigolds
And like the sun he is a centerfold
And worth more than all the gold

Middle

I’ll take the middle of the night, when I’m feeling alright.
I’ll take the middle of the rush, I can never get enough.
I’ll take the middle of your love, where it fits like a glove.
I’ll take the middle of the page, and the center of your stage.
I’ll take the middle of your lie, the part you said you would try.
I’ll take the middle of the day, it feels the same anyway!
I’ll take the middle of knowing, that is where truth starts glowing.
I’ll take the middle of goodbye, that’s where our love died.
I’ll take the middle of nowhere, that’s the place I don’t care.

The Trouble With Forever

The trouble with forever
It happens rarely ever
They put it in a letter
Then say that it is treasure

The trouble with forever
It happens next to never
They promise you less error
Then leave in stormy weather

The trouble with forever
For worse or for better
At first they give you pleasure
Then the rest is only terror

The trouble with forever
It feels light as a feather
It promises only leisure
But it’s gone once there’s pressure

Mirage 2.0

I thought that he was far away but he doesn’t exist
I thought they were a bouquet of poems, not a blade to cut my wrist
For a moment, I felt loved, now I feel his fist
And whatever I’ve done, well he’s over it

One, two, three, four, there’s so many grabbing at his line
It was written for her but now nevermind
And if he can’t have her, we get zero rhyme
If he only knew they left us completely blind

He kept us marching so long in the desert
And thirsty we were for any squirt
We were just disciples for him to hurt
And the connections that were made he doesn’t give a fuck

Writings On My Wall

Sun salutations
Wrong allegations
Misweighted information
Long lines of waiting
Years we spent wasting
Love we’ve been chasing
Hearts have been breaking
So tired of hating
Constantly debating
Everyone is faking
Lying & taking
People are shaking
The world is deteriorating

What sort of end are you after
Destroyed it all, even the laughter
Killed the love in the heart of the matter
Took to flight, left agony here to gather

They are like Romeo and Juliet destined to be driven apart yet tethered together by the heart

Here it comes, the end again but this time he brought the apocalypse with him. Lasso my smile and pull down my grin cuz here it is the end again.

Did you know
Wherever you are
I still love you

Did you know
Whoever you become
I will always love you

And then he softly asked about my wants, “just forever babe, I’ll take forever babe”

Give my regards to Bacchus
Tell him I’m just a carcass
But if it wasn’t for his sweet wine
I might not make it through this time

He creates the wave
Then punishes me for riding it
The riptide pulls me under
And he watches me persist

I thought I was falling
I thought you would catch me
I thought I was falling
But it was only a hole
For my soul
Where did the love go?
All I feel is empty
And cold, in this beautiful hole
You dug for me

Hello non-believer
Of anything

Here lies a possibility,
But could you believe her?

The edge is on the horizon
The horizon is how you die
But the wave you’re currently riding
Is the fear you feel inside
As the doom continues rising
So does the panic to decide
So now the boat where you were hiding
Is now the place your soul has died
As you think of all the times you tried
And you let go of hope one final time
Blame the shade of sorrow for why you cried
And your final word becomes goodbye

If you ever feel the sadness in you growing
You never were the reason for me going

Sorry if you saw my love as poison
When it comes to failure I was the chosen

And to a world that’s evermore vacant
You weren’t the reason for me ever staying

Love was something I never knew
And if my love was warm well now it is frozen

Take the wool and pull it over someone else’s eyes please

It’s like everyone is set on destruction mode
And I am set to go… here’s the code, 123, watch me blow
But what happened? I don’t know

And the sign says “you are too qualified”
And the sign read “you are too good”
I apply instead and still get denied
He’ll reply and say “you misunderstood”

And the eye will say “all welcome here”
And the room will stare, “are you misplaced dear”
And the mind will lie and replace the fear
And his hand extends, “this way’s not clear”

Take for granted my kindness I give to you
Take for granted the nights I tried to get through
Take my love and bury it six feet under too
You can’t kill it no matter what you do

She’s at it again, same ole tricks
Like a snake using sex to lure sin
Like a witch with a capture potion
It’s the only way she can get any licks

She was a doll and they all wanted her to break.

You’re getting close, getting close, getting closer
You’re moving fast, always last, getting older
Nobody knows, though we asked, for some closure
Same ratios, lethal dose, then it’s over

An angel slipped from the clouds of heaven
Looking over eternity to get a better view of him
Golden gates spread into the wide open
She spiraled down the hope of his dreams
And he awoke with her feather under his pillow
And from its tip, he spilled his ink all over her future

She danced among the wails of purgatory
Decades she waited outside walls of longing
She stabbed the night so light could shine through
And every star that twinkles is a wish she made for you
His step grows lighter, while her wing drags across his bruise
Her heart carries the weights of love
Her love so pure an ounce can make dreams come true

I slip into his poetry like a favorite pair of pajamas.

Living alone, hiding decline
Rainbows to prison at anytime
Dust keeps collecting above his faint shrine
So he keeps to settling among the lost swine

To me, he’s worth more than any gold
Long ago his self-worth was sold
He dwells among shadows as he was once told
He’ll need to find his courage to be bold

He’s so deep in me
My aura is spinning
And through spirals I’m swimming
In a loop of beginnings
And with a touch of fate, no endings
These soulquakes

I am a galaxy so faint you can barely see it.

Clippings from the sleeve of my heart…

50 Word Short Story Poetry

Years passed on and he always wondered how she got on with her life
But one evening, word finally returned, she ended her life that night
When he asked of her body, her grave, they said it was the ocean
She was never recovered from the boat she jumped, “there wasn’t a note son…”

© Delia Ross. 2019

So, thank you so much for 25,000 visits to this here blog cuz it just surpassed 25K! Woah. I wanted to write a 50 word short story in poetry format and since it’s October or nearly Halloween, I went with a death/ horror theme. I wanted to see how much impact I could give a poem with as little information about the characters as possible. I wanted there to be a sense of doom but also a feeling of empathy and unresolved questions. Like, did it make you wonder what happened to them? Just like he wondered all those years what happened to her. Did he imagine she was better off without him? Did he wonder if she was happy all those years? Does it make you wonder who they were to each other? Did you feel sad or gutted for him receiving such tragic news? Did you feel empathy or loss for him? Could you feel the mood or “put yourself in his shoes”?

By the way, I didn’t count the “the”, “and”, or “a”.

Can you write a 50 word short story too? I challenge you to do so, and brownie points if you can pull it off in poetry format. It doesn’t have to be a Halloween or horror theme, but if you’re up for the double challenge? I’m sure these 50 word short story thingys exist but I just came up with the idea of doing one in poetry format and Halloween themed. If my little story moved you, hit that like button or drop me a comment. And definitely let me know if you do the challenge. 👻👻👻

Remember Me

Will you remember me when the pages are torn from the book
Six feet under is the only direction to look
After I have taken you to places you rarely go
And I make you confront things you’d rather not know

Will you change a picture for a face?
Reduce 3 to 1 and find embrace
Will you remember the love when I haven’t a voice
And never forget I hadn’t a choice

You and me we are one map
The threads of fate now overlap
Like a Figure 8 we’re meant to last
The amount of love is in the vast

The need is deeper than the Grand Canyon
There is no answer to the question
And yet I rush in to fill the sea
And only you can stop the need

Alpha Omega, yin and yang
Together our force, the big bang
I’m Niagara Falls, falling for you
And I love every layer of you too

I just sat down and freestyle spilled this out and probably could of kept going cuz the love is infinite and endless but it needed to be said…

Micropoetry

I sail through life on my own
It helps when feeling alone –
To remember we both see the same Moon
Then my loneliness fades to about a teaspoon

My loneliness clumps into bands of dark matter, my heart swelling like a balloon, my molecules ripping and stretching into oblivion, for her shadow is like dark energy, and selfish is the darkness she needs.

If not real, give me fake
Bleed me good, nest in my ache

How can I move on when my heart is where he is.

Untangle the worry
Braid the hope
Insert the key
Climb his rope

I know I’m not her and I know I’ll never be
It still makes me wonder if you ever think about me

The space between us
The distance to Venus
The orbits of loss
Our love was a near miss

I still feel the ripple
It hit me like triple
A vortex of riddle
But our love is simple

Her love comes with maggots
But still he’ll have it

He wants to own it all, without conquering
He doesn’t want me for himself, or anybody else
He doesn’t want me in the arms of another king
He wants to own my heart and not give me a thing

I don’t see how this plan is fair for me
You sit there feasting while I am starving

All the paths I take lead into a different darkness of you
And every skin you shed leaves a different kind of clue

Put on the blind, if you want to take the ride, he demanded
Into a field of doom, I glided

We are born into this world and given a number and if you’re lucky you’ll get a good mother

I’m sorry but life is just so tough and when it comes to love there isn’t enough

My love, my will is infinite
These roads were paved for the misfit
These hands were made to capture it
These feet march on and never quit
My soul for you is completely naked
Under your mirror I will submit
By your side I will commit
With your love I can exist

There’s more but I just can’t bear it…

CONFUSION FRONT AND CENTER

I placed it in the trash but he said it wasn’t broke
I put it on the shelf then he said it doesn’t work

I offered him a piece but he didn’t take my pie
Yet he doesn’t want me giving it to another guy

Anytime that I move forward there appears another gate
But if I turn around he’s flagging to go straight

I might have said some things that I never meant to say
But he will plead the fifth or look the other way

I tried to read the signs but they’re written in foreign
And even if they were it wouldn’t stop me from adoring

I really wish he liked me but he doesn’t think I’m witty
I don’t fall on the list of girls that he finds pretty

I listened to his reason but it’s confusion front-and-center
And when I said I loved him the season turned to winter

I stumble through the weather like I am a zombie
And watching me break must be his favorite hobby

Togetherness

I see you everywhere.
But instead of faces in the crowd,
It’s worry in my brow,
In every hollow laugh,
In questions of why and how,
In responses of no but now.

I feel you in every reality.
While sleeping or barely coping.
When drowning but keep on joking.
Any time I feel like moping.
When my hands are bound from hoping.
The hundred sighs my mouth keep moaning.

My subconscious won’t let you slide.
And so I find you in every rhyme.
To an email I sent some guy.
It doesn’t matter who does reply.
I pretend it’s you every time.

My mind is in an endless dream,
And we’re together in an alternate galaxy.
And so if in that one it can repeat,
And every fiber of me too agrees.
We may be separate but I feel complete,
And when I talk to you I feel release.

Garden

I take my heart and I plant it in a garden
I bury it with love and grant another pardon
I cover it with grass so it will never be his burden
I would have given it to him but he found a better bargain
The seed might find the light but now I’m not so certain

Several years may pass and I’ll still be pulling weeds
Making sure he finds exactly what he needs
And if he ever asks, I’ll help him with some leads
The only thing I ask is happiness succeeds
And so I plant his rhyme in the better parts of me

© Delia Ross. 2019

Prozac

I told the doctor I don’t want to be issued Prozac
He guarantees, it’ll help the things, my future lack
I told the pharmacist, I had things I needed to get off my back
And with a smile, or a devil’s grin, I reached and took my sack

I told my friends, I’m sleeping well, though an insomniac
I tell them still, I’m up the hill, but I can’t relax
I take a knee, and pray to God, that was the climax
Both depression and anxiety yelling back at me to face the facts

© Delia Ross. 2019

Sidenote: I don’t really take Prozac but I could throw at you a slew of other prescriptions. Though I’m advocating for medical mary to be written for vets…because truthfully, it’s the ONE thing that works (and I feel less like ripping someone’s head off). If vets had access to medicinal mary, there’d be less suicides because big Pharma actually does make you more suicidal and so the propaganda and fear-mongering against that plant needs to stop *pops pill*

Calories

Eat his poetry like calories
Chew the words delicately

Roll them around my tongue
Taste them, make me young

Take a bite early morning
Swallow them and won’t be lonely

Sometimes they are sweet or sour
Chocolate candies at any hour

Leftovers or a second-helping
Can keep the wound from needing dressing

I will never leave a crumb
Even if they make me numb

Very few leave me sober
Every word helps through the layover

© Delia Ross. 2019

Outer Space

I am not his
No no no
But I can pretend like this

Today we went for our first coffee
And as he sat next to me talking
I wondered if he saw a zombie
But then he leaned in and kissed me softly

He is not mine
No no no
But I still call him my valentine

His kiss takes me to cosmic landscapes
One ounce of his love opens the floodgates
One word of his rhyme and I can’t keep a straight face
One glance of his eyes takes me to outer space

Angel Falls

Maybe my regret is a thorn in a rose
Or maybe second chance is the hand that he shows
Down here in his chambers, are the darkest meadows
And where we both are heading, only he knows

I will spiral downward, until he breaks my resolve
The further from ascension, the more that we evolve
When pressured for a reason, the question goes unsolved
Leave guessing in the season, where doubt cannot unthaw

Though careful we are treading, through the meddling, of never giving up
And heavy was the worry where our picture could not develop
And leaning on our shoulder was the ear of the devil
And facing in the mirror was an angel who fell from heaven

With eyes that burn for him with loyalty
Though she’ll never know it, his heart is her property
Both married to the darkness as if it’s the only deity
Yet somewhere in the fall, she had found her divinity

Commute

Sitting on the corner of depression avenue
I’ll wave with a smile when you pass by me too
I’ve been here awhile so I’ve got the right attitude
You’d think by my grin I had the winning suit
But underneath the cards there’s a truth I will never refute
And every part of me needs repaired, even the soles of my boot
How quickly by you flee on a journey I would love to commute
But I’ve got a darkness troubling me and I feel it, deep down in my root
And so I isolate the need that you bring on this road where I pollute
But your words have me jumping out of a plane without a parachute
And if you were to measure the love it would be absolute

Unknown Soldier

I’m kinda sorta glad I’m just an unknown soldier
Some may know my name but not what’s on my shoulder
You may say you’re sorry but that won’t bring me closure
You may say you love me but your actions turn you over

I’m kind of sort of glad I’m only a warrior
In a sense, to you all, I am still a foreigner
I have spent months in boots where the stars were my chauffeur
And without a moment’s notice I could be back with her

I’m really sort of glad I only own my freedom
And though I may love him I don’t really need him
And it won’t cost me much to bandage where I’m bleeding
In fact, I can disappear, without needing a reason

Though many have asked I’m glad I never married
I guess the reasons why they always have varied
Those were the roads I never saw journeyed
That sort of thinking was long ago buried

I’m really sort of glad I can just disappear
With the flip of a switch I could be out of here!
You wouldn’t have an address or know if I was near
Your words would have no magic to lure me in here dear

I’m really sort of glad I don’t have many regrets
I made a couple dollars and I made a couple debts
I have never been divorced and I own all my assets
You may look at me as poor but I’m as good as it gets

I’m really sort of glad that I’ve got eyes where I can see
And when it comes to young girls you go in a frenzy
I never understood what you ever saw in me
I’m just an unknown soldier, broken at the knee

Dirt

Got his hand on my throat with every word
Got his squeeze on my pump with every hurt
Got his eye on the prize if ever I’m sure
And with the right ingredients just maybe a cure

Got his hand on the ready to offer comfort
Got my mind on the question though maybe he answered
She’s got her nose in the air as if she’s the expert
And she cries for his heart like a rich man now beggared

Got his tongue on the bottle so maybe it slurred
And my outrage is written though normally censored
But he claims that he loves me and I’m certain she heard
And so I do my best to not blind her with dirt

Survivor

I reached walls of iron
And gates of steel
Where golden halos come to kneel
And curiosities are even higher

Forgiveness gets trapped in the mire
Underneath the waiting, a place a soul can heal
Games of dishonor are never part of the ordeal
Lying and mistrust burn with the pyre

Here outside his walls await desire
A soul reaching to feel
Where fantasy reaches the surreal
And love is the sole survivor

© Delia Ross. 2019

Aftermath

Do you ever regret building my wall?
Do you ever feel anything at all?

Are you even aware of what you lost?
Can you feel the weight of its cost?

Are you proud of the pain you caused?
The red flags raised and lines you crossed?

The bridges burned, the lies you craft
Did you all, have a good laugh?

I gave you love, you fed me wrath
I still dwell in the aftermath

Deliaology

So I write a bit of poetry
Do you think that makes you know me?
Or from what I drop in my story
You’re an expert at the knowing

So you think that I’m messed up
Or that you have a better cup
You scream “now” and watch me jump
Then disappear after I get hurt

You think you know me all so well
Because I let you see my hell
You think you know what rings my bell
Or if I smile I’m feeling well

You think you have me figured out
Or what to do to make me shout
That I’m unholy or too devout
Or that you made me take this route

You think I’m warm when I am cold
Or it’s the only story told
You think it wrong when I am bold
You pay with lies instead of gold

You think I’m high when I am crying
You think I live while I am dying
You think my love is undermining
Or that I’m never really trying

You think I’m strong when I am weak
I’ve got it all so you think
I don’t deserve what I seek
And you hear words I never speak

Spoken word of this coming soon…

Chess

He moves me around like pieces of a chess board
A game he fully intends to win
He uses me like a pawn in a game of life
And he knows I will never quit

With his pen and with his will he continues to record
Every single squinch I make because he likes it when I sin
And deeper in he puts the knife
For I can never match his wit

For months his darkness I explored
I still feel him deep within
Many times I dropped the strife
And he still would not submit

I turn to rage when I’m ignored
Do you think it makes him grin?
I ask him not to be his wife
Just a friend I can commit

Make love, not war ✌

Signal

Love kills the demon
You are the reason
It will never weaken
This is my beacon

Your love is an enigma
And deeper I keep reachin’
I can’t hide the stigma
And this is my signal

Here it is your big love
Or maybe your equal
In every season
The beginning, end, and sequel

Here it is your secret
Why haven’t you found it
What can’t you admit
My love is permanent

Calm before the storm… (hurricane pending here)

Higher

Higher than the mountains he is
Taller than New York

Deeper than the ocean he brings
A light to pave the dark

Round and round a spiral he springs
Making love his watermark

The road he paves was left for kings
As the spirit of the patriarch

Galaxies form from the words he sings
It’s a journey I will embark

He has the power to spread my wings
And he did it from the start

Clot

There it was I thought
But then again maybe not
It is tangled in a knot
A wound without a clot

And yet bigger that it got
It smelled of death and rot
He said he knew but he forgot
And neither cared to clean the spot

And while the witch did stir the pot
Along she came a wretched trot
And with her pen she took a shot
And I seek naught the thing she brought

HE WANTS TO KNOW WHERE MY LOVE WENT *LAUGHS INSANELY*

There’s a hurricane headed to Florida and there’s a good chance I’ll lose Communications for a bit.

Lens

I live in a land of monsters and men
Signs paving the way for our sins
Highways of hell where the ends always end
Because I can never match her perfection

Wild and unfairing
Another world warm and caring
One less despairing
A womb for repairing

A cosmic tail stretching in dominion
Together, they form a new religion
Words without meaning or definition
It keeps both their spirals spinning

She who lives behind a camera lens
Who gets to peer his faded gems
An inspiration for the words he pens
The very route my soul can cleanse

Can a moment go uncaptured
Where not written in her chapter
His smile an awakening and the rapture
Both freedom and the captor

I find safety in his happiness
For this is how the world is meant
If only love were permanent
And shared with those less fortunate

I follow him like a shooting star into a valley of wishes
My hard exterior is now submissive
My heart wider and less constricted
I hope she is all he predicted

Life teaches us multiple lessons
He has the magnitude of a million sessions
Yet only one needs my confession
Without a doubt, he is perfection

© Delia Ross. 2019

She’s perfect and he’s perfect and I am always just a spectator to love…

Darkness Falls

Chance was cast aside
Like a broken promise forgotten
Friendship lay there rotting
Like a dead carcass
With his lover circling like a buzzard
Her heart as cold as the Arctic
Black as night is her word
A circus queen for the heartless
I’ve not read a thing she muttered
Nor drank from which she harvest
They are black seeds of dread
Crimson pools of tears from where I bled
Laughter from the ones who never suffered
Jupiter knows the ways I cried

Halo

He must love her like the wind
Wild and free and without end

His love must be the sun
Warming life from where it’s numb

His touch must be the moon
For the soul an endless womb

His gaze must be the light
Turning darkness into color overnight

His voice must be a dance
Where angels glide in a trance

His hope must be a rainbow
Forever glowing as her halo

Her love must be an ocean
Deep it goes her devotion

Clue

I’m on an island of a thousand tears
If you took a boat you could find me here
Silhouettes of you in the clouds appear
Echoes of your voice in the atmosphere
On my knees in prayer I gently kneel

I drift alone on this bank of silence
Every tear another wish for your guidance
Reflections in the waves I see your diamonds
Nothing fills my need more than your iris
Open up your eyes you’ll see your alliance

I know your past and still I love you
I can be your future should you want me to
I can be your now should you pursue
I can be that friend you never outgrew
I can be whatever you need if you haven’t got a clue

Angelism

I traveled far just to find his den
I walked barefoot through the Garden of Eden
I passed graveyards of original sin
I ate the apple and I’d do it again

Under his altar
I heed to prayer
I kneel and I receive offer
And taste his holy water

Where I begin to transcend
And I feel clean again
My wings stretch and extend

Church bells ring with a deep moan
The harvest comes where he does roam

His scripture flows deep in my vein
Where under his rule my enemies are slain

His kiss and touch my communion
With every moment I feel more human

I bless him with eternal devotion
Our souls together gently woven
When one my halo is golden
Fully healed and never broken

In my soul his name is etched
On my heart I wear his crest
With my love his soul is blessed
Together we are at our best

Burned on my wing is our decree
It wasn’t written to deceive
Two pieces of the puzzle now complete
A map to our destiny

Illusion

Words needn’t be backed up with a promise to have meaning
Lying seems to be the direction everyone is leaning
Tongues twist and slither without feeling
Inserting poison which keeps us from dreaming
And as the blood boils our hearts stop beating
Hate simmers and spreads in a cycle of repeating
And from this dark spiral we keep feeding
Outnumbered, my feet and love start receding
Here comes another decade of me screaming
Hope faded with the dawn of needing
My love is the only love that can bring healing
My soul is weary and ready for eternal sleeping
I fight to stay alive God willing
I wish I could stop my love from ever leaking
These demons feast from me and leave me freezing
As I lay dying I start believing-
Love is just an illusion to keep me from leaving

Masks

We all have skeletons in our closet
Some wear many masks
We all tuck lies in our pocket
With questions never asked
If any were to audit
They’d see plenty had been tasked
It would hit you like a rocket
The truth would come so fast
And it is as loud as a trumpet
Truth will feel harassed
A sinner of mistruth or a prophet
The unknown is so vast
If only he hadn’t known it
Our love might have last

You’re Everything

Taste his lips, his ecstasy
Reminding me the best of me
Warmth and love appearing
Covering as gravity
My temperature rising
Coloring me like flowers
And in this life a rarity
Knowing this is ours
All these hours
No more towers
You inside me hiding
I’ll take us gliding
Spread your wings
Dive into my springs
Ever flowing and never slowing
My spiral just keeps going
And love for you ever growing
There aren’t better things for kings
And off my lip sings
For you anything
You’re everything

A Song For The Heart

In a different place
In another world
With a different face
And another girl

With a different heart
Better spoken word
Where we never part
And we’re always heard

With a different life
Not a lonely one
Where I am his wife
And my heart he has won

It’s a full moon rising
It’s a love worth shining
It’s a full moon rising
It’s a love worth climbing

Age of Reason

I struggle with reason. I dwell on it, rub over it like a pig in mud. Try it on, wear it overnight, sometimes invite it over for the weekend. And when pleasing, cook it a good meal. It takes awhile to break in, like a good pair of shoes that you love but that hurts your feet. They bleed and cause blisters yet you wear them anyway. You think the money or time invested is now worth the pain. So many hours pounding the streets in them. The pain never fades, it burrows and claws its way into every moment, crushing stone as you walk. Time moves on, leaving bitter trails stained with blood, a journey harder than once thought. Your worry weighing down, as peace is not coming back, and it cost more than you originally bought. In the end, you come to know every season. Every why. Every when. Every how. Reason will be an uninvited guest. Knowledge will begin to feel like treason. How could you not know? Until this very moment. With death lingering like a demon.

Vintage

Why can’t for once someone accept my love
Try it on like a pair of pants or gloves
Wear it a bit longer like a stylish cut
Or so many times as you would a favorite
Until it is covered in stains and cigarette burns
And smells of a favorite expensive perfume
It smells of dizzy lovers
Cheap whiskey
Heavy regrets
Well, hopefully not any of those yet
Tattered and torn but the pockets still work
It’s vintage (like the best stuff)
All the hours connected to skin
It wrapped you during any weather
It would do it again
You ponder trashing it in the bin
A gift to charity is less of a burden
Never contemplating sewing it at the hem
Fixing parts where it may be broken

Intro

It hurts more than my feelings
It hurts more than my pride
It hurts more than my ego
It hurts more than your lies

It cost more than your freedom
It cost more than my cries
It cost more than your window
It cost more of my time

I live in limbo
While you agonize
I see a hero
You’d never recognize

This is an intro
To a better life
The cost is zero
If you drop the guise

Edges

Keep on crawling to the edge
of his love

Keep on falling off the ledge
from his shove

Keep on calling
though he’s not home

Keep on bawling
on my own

He keeps stalling
from this love

I keep befalling from his words

Keep on rolling down
where he roams

Always on the edge of his ledge

Always on the ledge of giving up

Always on the edge of his grudge

Always on the ledge of his love

Always on the edge of his touch

Always on the ledge of loving him too much

Always on the edge of forgiving this one

Silver

It’s not terribly hard to see you’re always chasing after young silver
Spend your days shinning every dime by the muddy river
Try to hide reflections of a liar in its mirror
If the devil bit you in the head it wouldn’t make it that much clearer
But I’m going to cover you in truth until you shine like glitter
I doubt anything I write can make you more bitter
You’ll probably claim you’re a victim and call me a killer
But neither of us are walking out of here a winner
My heart lost its color and settled for winter
I told you to shoot but you failed to pull the trigger
And now my love for you will always just kind of linger
If you ever want a friend you’re invited for dinner
If you ever need a rare element that’s where I can deliver
I hope one day you will warm my heart from this shiver
Until then my soul will just tremble and quiver

(He always wants the young silver – she’ll never want what he can give her)

Lifespan

I promise to listen
Always with intention
To understand

If you can hold me
Instead of scold me
I will be your best friend

I don’t need more lessons
Or other people’s blessings
To love my man

I won’t ask you questions
Or demand from you confessions
If you let me join your clan

Please let your worries lessen
I’ll never keep you guessing
Our love will never need a plan

The moon it now shines crescent
My love is on fluorescent
There’s enough for your entire lifespan

Yearning

It’s half-past heartbreak
The pain grips like a snake
There’s nothing to stop the ache

Once upon a better time
Wasting youth was such a crime
Pride it only cost a dime

It’s long past sorrow
There’s no joy here to borrow
I still pray he calls tomorrow

Third times a charm or so we learn
In slavery until we are adjourned
And so the same ole pages turn
These forty years I only yearn
