Undertow

I just want him to know
I’m trying to let go
Of a sinking boat
And avoid undertow

Drowning seems to be the only solution
Love doesn’t want to die though

So it tries a different form
It tries to love a different way
It gets lost in a storm
Still it loves another day

But like a shark missing its fin
Sinking down, it still can’t swim
When defeat becomes a win
Disillusionment becomes him

I tried to love you as a friend
I tried to love you as an enemy
I tried to love with eyes that couldn’t see
I tried to love the end

I still can’t pretend
That I can love you any other way
And so my heart I defend
The things you always fail to say

I’m trying to love him in a way that it won’t hurt… (just a freestyle from my heart to him)

The Color Of Sad

She paints her face with sorrow
Showing worry lines for tomorrow
Her lips are the color of sad
Unkissed cheeks from love she never had

Her skin taste of salt
Where her joy came to a halt
And her hand is free from fault
And it’s love she’s never taught

Her hair is made of darkness
Her heart is now a carcass
Her voice has fell to silence
And her mind is full of violence

Trouble burrowed in her mind
And she’s running out of time
If it’s love she cannot find
Her soul will be an endless decline

Christmas Mourning

All alone on another Eve
Does it matter if I’m well or sickly?
Loneliness is eating through my soul like a disease
I wash it down with eggnog and whiskey

I’ll be lucky if I make it to fifty
I feel so exposed yet empty
On and on my tears will stream
I feel it all yet feel nothing

My purpose is few and far between
Climbed through his window, it’s getting darker it seems
Fighting for more than jewellery for the queens
Lost somewhere between nightmare and a dream

Is this purgatory?
For the living?
Monsters keep following me
I feed them honey

It came, it saw, it went
All my energy is spent
And I’m drowning in debt
With the economic collapse, I slipped
I’m such a catch you bet
Haven’t met my enemy yet
His name is death

I’m sorry you feel I am not worthy
Of anything
A lesson of, “I too agree”
But please keep laughing….

Let me take a knee…
You are the king
Of the filthy
Let me kiss your ring

I’M BOWING

YOU ARE WINNING

Don’t visit me at the cemetery

Where I’m going…

I mean, you already killed me

His words hit like an EMP
A shock wave rushing over me

Unwrapping tears under the tree
Fears this Christmas eve
Rain and invisibility
The very essence of me

Christmas eve 2019

Web of Shadows

The light cast a web of shadows and doubt
Losing time trying to figure it out
Forging through worry with rarely a shout
Aging like oak and bitter like stout
Hardened inside with lines showing drought
Incomplete circles with no love about
Roots growing weaker with every new route
Clinging to hate though loving devout
Feeling so lonely while lost in a crowd
Busting down rules where I’m not allowed
Wishing for once I hadn’t figured it out
The trouble with eyes they come with a mouth
The problem with fate it comes with a vow
I’d gift forgiveness but I don’t know how
I’d run today but I am still bound
You’d look away but you’re still around
Looking in others what we already found
Feeling uneasy but knowing not what to do now

Numb

If you climb the mountain of despair
I will greet you there
For my home is made of sorrow
And it’s found everywhere
No purpose for tomorrow
Here there’s little air
Watch him praying to the sparrow
Well, I still don’t care

Top, bottom, or in between
It’s the still same routine
Kiss them now or never
Been numb since I was fifteen
Blinded or with sight
Still can’t feel anything
With cure or a poison
There is no vaccine

He Never Cared

Another year alone on this road I go
And why he never cared
I may never know
Eyes that often stared
No space for hearts to grow
Every moment shared
A price that I still owe
My soul forever impaired
Just want love to flow

© Delia Ross. 2019

You know, I still cry over the fact that he never even wished me a happy birthday this year and it was the only thing I even wanted. But I watch him tell other girls happy birthday. He makes me feel small and insignificant. He always does, he always has. As if he were born to make me regret ever being born. Crying now but whatever. As long as he sleeps at night, right?

River of Blood

Bathe in our river of blood
Regret comes in a flood
Reborn to the silence of us
Drowning but we won’t give up

The drowning man will always take down another
Wouldn’t it be something if you chose not to hurt her
Where is the honor of being a deserter
Blasphemous to replace her at her altar

Peering over into your reflection
Tampering with fate by another obsession
The game was rigged I’m seeing deception
Being a monster your number one profession

Brown, blue, green or hazel eyes
They all equal another prize
On and on you keep crafting lies
You are a thing to despise

I can smell a lie a mile away
In every direction they will sway
Maybe they’ll catch on another day
I am disgusted by the games you play

Veil

Go ahead and take what is remaining
Place a temple where the love is waning
Years go by but only pain is gaining
You’ll never find a love like mine remaining

Take her veil and throw it in a river
Loving her takes more than a mirror
Even blind you cannot see more clearer
Look away even though you need her

Rage

Reality came crashing down
And hit like a rogue wave
Promises like broken glass
Which sliver over rage

Life jackets unable to float
But still promising to save
Regret now a sinking ship
An apology is what I crave

Memories flood about
Like a visit to your grave
And earlier shall it now arrive
If you don’t learn to behave

Standing on his virtual plank
Tied and bound just like a slave
Recording every cry and slip
A down ending requires the brave

He might peek but never look
And your sorrow is an all-night rave
He may pretend that he is shook
But he’s the one that will deprave

Where clouds are as thick as doubt
And forgiveness you never gave
Where time is as thin as worry
And love it never came

Last

Ain’t no use standing on the ledge
Ain’t no use living on the edge
Ain’t no use deciding what went wrong
Ain’t no use crying all night long
Ain’t no use denying what was said
Ain’t no use pretending that we’re dead

Seven days, seven broken seals
Seven bottles, seven ways to feel
Seven hands but never any deals
So many hours, nothing helps to heal
Unanswered prayers left me where I kneel
So many arrows but none of them have the kill

Prayers just to get me through the pain
I’d give it all up for just another day
Darkness now engulfs my only view
I can’t accept that our time is through
Throw my troubles far into the past
Give myself a break from coming last

That Girl

Back to where I started
Love evacuates for the broken hearted
Now assembling all the shattered pieces
Fuck forgiveness, I have a grievance

Hopeful is the day I’m laying in a plot
Worry is the love now tangled in a knot
Forgiveness is a treat and I never have that much
Love is the answer but you’ve clearly lost your touch

Rewind, fast forward, start again
All I wanted was a friend
I found myself within your world
I guess I’ll always be that girl…

Cocoon

“Fall back! Retreat!”
My tongue is on repeat
My heart isn’t listening
It has burrowed in your sleep

“Take cover, find shelter!”
But I can handle most any weather
A simple dweller
Under a star so stellar

You can bury me but love you cannot remove
Is there anything else left to prove?
We all have lives we need to improve
My forgiveness is on the move

Clawing out of my silken cocoon
Growing over the words that you croon
Hoping for chance but loving too soon
I’ll never get over you…

Fool’s Gold

Fool’s gold
That’s what you sold
Do you always gift your muse
A fistfuck in the heart to bruise

Poison in her chalice
Written words of malice
A traitor in your trade
Heaven now will fade

You tossed away your destiny
You systematically destroyed me
You ran headfirst into decay
You laughed as I turned away

I wish I didn’t know you were out there
Somewhere living without a care
Never once really needing my hand
That was only pretend

Stuck on a dead-end road with a killer
Reached for your hand as a healer
I would wish you well
But I am in hell

Praying now to forget your face
Begging god just to fix the ache
It’s still cold when the sun is shining
Please tell me where is the silver lining?

Heartbreak Hotel

Heartbreak hotel
In the center of hell
Under sorrow I dwell
I am not feeling well

Part alive, part dead
Mostly full of dread
To sadness I am wed
In a world he will never tread

Spoken words, incantations, or curses
Only dead things here to worship
Above; heaven on the surface
But watch him draw the curtain

(So I just keep hurtin’)

Moments of magic like electricity
Flashes of hope set my soul free
The hand was one and not an army
Words sweetened just like candy

Skeletons, nightmares, and broken dreams
Are all that’s left for me
Your words like a symphony
Helped me grow so vividly

Mourning the loss of trust
Mourning the fate of us
Overwhelmed by the life you crushed
I thought you were made of stardust

Stranded in our garden
With nothing left to bargain
One heart simply starving
Crimson tears set to harden

I Still Remember

I didn’t think it could hurt any deeper
Or that he could become a colder creature
He’s got a taste for evil and that’s only a teaser
The devil says he was born a natural deceiver

Deep he draws blood from within my vein
A master of lies and pain is his reign
An unmanly thing with a tarnished name
A useless boy always inheriting blame

You can lead a demon to heaven but you can’t make him enter
You can stomp on a flame but it still needs an ember
I can say I hate you but there’s still love in the center
I can pretend you don’t exist but your words I still remember

© Delia Ross. 2019

Depleted

I’m trying to make repairs but I feel depleted
Unlike invisibility, I’ve simply been deleted
A guest where the heart never once was greeted
But first in his line to always be mistreated

No pardon, no mercy
Just a girl he will never see
One weeping heart in agony
Sad girl diary on repeat

© Delia Ross. 2019

Sad ghoul
Angry vampyre
Disappointed
Confused and mostly misunderstood
It’s possible I don’t care
Lots of things are possible, like this growing hate for you…
Do you always make the good ones wish they were never born!?!

Spell

Look away from the boy lost in his cell
Look away from the monster creating his own hell
Look away from the blood pouring from where we fell
Look away from the moment his heart made your heart swell
Look away from the pimp who never cares to ask if you are well
Look away from the girls he has under his constant spell

Seeds of Descent

Love is a lost art
Still I built a special ark
Made from words within my heart
To help you through your dark

(Does it mean anything?)

Sailing through crosses and curses
Sending prayers of ‘is it worth it’
Lingering in places God deserted
Standing stagnant near roads diverted

(Your words sting, they numb my wing)

Leaving hints and traces of echoes
Chained to someone I can’t let go
Drowning in cycles of these lows
Agony abundant where love grows

(I am sinking)

Red Flags

I warned you, didn’t I?
I pointed out the red flags
But oh you still believe in words
Where mouths will always lie

You think I am crazy?
Truth is my only mask
Though you see it as trash
I wear integrity as we all cry

I warned you of this guy
But still you open wide
You stay by his side
When you know deep down he is mine

Stones like troops berating
Maybe queen was only saving
You from injury
That will keep you aching

Warnings

When warnings go unheard
When she gets what she deserved
Where tears flow unfurled
An angel with wings now curled

Where silence pours in the crack
With eyes not looking back
Where eyes now appear black
And the love is what they lack

When they mock her only truth
And he swallows at her youth
And there’s never arms to soothe
When you give up way too soon

When darkness is the only light
Where the tongue has no blight
When there’s something quite not right
So you disappear into the night

Our Life Is An Epic Poem

Our life is an epic poem
Like the Great Red Spot on Jupiter
Our pain is our greatest storm
And we burrow and we rise in perfect form

Struggles are ingredients to our lives
And we sprinkle bits of honey on the knives
And we reach such depths in our dives
But this is how all life thrives

In our toolkit we have so much courage
We eat our sadness like it is porridge
We peer into darkness where we flourish
And our will becomes an endless forage

Alex Ebert inspires me so much, in every possible way. His pep talk on Tuners radio hit a core. I am grateful for him. For being able to learn and grow and not be stagnant in my woe. But to flourish and thrive. You cannot have light without the dark. And so I see my darkness in a new light. And so I take these waves to greater heights, as I settle in the cold black night. Everything’s gonna be alright. Just gotta get through the bite. Then sight. If you struggle with depression or suicidal thoughts and ideation, you really should go listen to his pep talk, it’s under 2 minutes but maybe the greatest lesson of my life. Listen for free (no download needed): https://tuners.io/tracks/13446

I also dropped this poem as a spoken word reply under his thread “You Are Courageous” under Alex’s Tuners Radio account, if you wanna have a listen: https://tuners.io/tracks/13492

Summer

Why doesn’t he care about me I wonder
Why does he fill my heart with thunder
Why does he disappear and I step with blunder
Why can’t I ever be his favorite number

Where does the sun hide when it goes under
Would he be interested in me if I were younger
Will his disease always keep him a runner
Can he crawl from his dark and squeeze into my summer

My Sunday, how’s yours going?

I woke up to my Sunday morning with my ride having been damaged by a heinous, criminal act. I do not have the money to repair it. IF ANYONE CAN HELP, PLEASE HELP. DEPRESSION AWARENESS! SUICIDE AWARENESS. I CAN’T TAKE MUCH MORE. If anyone is capable or caring enough to help, please, I’m at the end of my rope.

Broken window, shattered soul, this is hell, don’t you know
Sunday blues *sigh*
Nothing stolen, strictly spite
$275 in repair costs I do not have and cannot drive until it is fixed.

Barely Coping

Forward calls, voicemail full
Store away the wings, ride the bull
Expose the mask, clean the wool
Give sheeple a tug, see if heart can pull

Cotton balls or iron spoons
Pay for love through blackened rooms
Seen as gain but more cartoons
Heard them crying over popped balloons

Walk away again, bury my hope
You gave him love, he gave you rope
Sinful tongue must clean with soap
Life just means I cannot cope

Sunday here, someday gone
Won’t even bother writing a Dear John…
Might stick around and watch his dawn
But he took me down like a baby fawn

He set the bar low but it is nonexistent
Perhaps it is there and I only missed it
If it’s a girl with missing panties, he will crawl persistent
If it’s an angel with a heartbeat, he will keep his distance

“Still looking for someone
Who was around
Barely coping
Now I hate myself
Wish I’d die” (-)

Confession

You never saw it coming my confession
My tongue split your head like a weapon
And my love was treated with rejection
Just a poison to your world you live in question
But I was the remedy already in session
And you failed every lesson
Your mask like glass brought out aggression
When I had been your only blessing
You lost my affection
What is now your direction
Another cheap gal I’m guessing

© Delia Ross. 2019

Do you ever regret it, responding to me on Instagram the way you did, when I came with pounds of fright and courage, to deliver you a special package, that you just threw on the floor and crushed? You knew my heart was inside, shaped as a poem? You know it’s the very moment it died? An angel came to you and you made her cry. Are you alive?

Ice Rings

Push me to the edges of the brink
When all it takes to forget me is a blink
His love is black and rarely pink
We’re not connected but still in sync

He is so cold I am forming ice rings
Circling around wherever he springs
Love is only meant for cheap things
Angel’s aren’t meant for such wings

His gravity kept me hoping
In a spiral of uncoping
Like a thread that keeps unroping
I am slowly eroding

Eagle

I am like an eagle
I’m trying to unplug sheeple
I am raising flags on evil
Corporations are not people

They won’t understand
I’m fighting for their life
I’ve fighted for their rights
I’m shining all the lights

Another death, big pharm to blame, I’M ANGRY!!!!!

My Dawn Is Gone (A real story)

It was a 357 Magnum that took her life
She wrote me a note then died that night
She said she loved me the last time we spoke
And then she never again awoke

Meika Dawn Capps was her name
I never did again feel the same
I’d spend all day with her at the cemetery
When she died I was also buried

April 7th, 1993
An asteroid called suicide got the best of me
The gun even had a scope
Years later her mother died at the end of a rope

Two funerals and a broken girl
I am definitely the saddest in the world
News it broke that Wednesday ‘mourning’
And I have never stopped hurting

© Delia Ross. 2019

She taught me everything, from how to shave to how to insert a tampon. Bestie foreverrrr. She died by suicide and years later her mother too. Meika’s first boyfriend also died by suicide two months before she died and he’s buried right near her. “Suicides always happen in 3” – something I learned in college which stuck with me.

I love you. Your death was apocalyptic to my soul. A day does not pass without you on my mind. You were my muse then, and my muse now. I miss getting into trouble with you. Skipping down the halls of school singing Pink Floyd. Writing songs together. Jumping off the balcony onto the trampoline. Moon bathing at night. Laughing together. Crying together. Meeting bands together. Late night cheese stick eatings. Watching headbangers ball. Staying on the phone with each other until we fell asleep and then waking up with the phone still connected and saying ‘see you at school’. I’m not the same without you. I miss your makeup tutorials. Your blue eyes. You speaking like Elmo. You never judging me. Wearing each others clothes and shoes. You hating that I was a few months older than you, and then briefly each year us being the same age- and how happy that made you- until my birthday came. Sharing our dreams and aspirations. Playing guitar together even though we didn’t know any chords yet. Those plans of starting a band. That moment you wanted to be a bass player and how excited we were to start a band. You calling me “creampuff” and I you “juicyfruit”. You were my best friend and soul mate. I was too young to understand depression so your suicide was both sudden and shocking. It changed my entire existence. It left a deep impact in my soul. I still cry out for you. I still need you. I still love you. Your last words to me were “I love you”. I know you didn’t mean to hurt me. And I wish I had known you were thinking of ending your life. But how could I have known when I suffered from the same illness. I should have stayed in better contact with your mommy because years later she took her life too. And when I saw bits of your coffin peeking out from the dirt, as your mom was being laid to rest next to you, memories of that day you left me rushed back into my mind. There’s no way of knowing if you exist in some other realm than me. But I hope when I cross that plain you will be there waiting. There’s so much I need to tell you. You taught me a very hard lesson in life. I cherish our memories, the good and bad. I NEVER want to forget you. I miss you. Always. Forever. Eternally Yours. xx (RIP Meika Dawn Capps May 1, 1979 – April 7, 1993))

Meika With Billy Ray Cyrus (I was there too)
Meika with Peter from Trixter (I was there too)
Billy Ray Cirus and self, age 13, 1993 (this was the year I thought it a good idea to cut my hair short and have a feather bang and wear shoulder pads)
Sister, Billy Ray Cirus, self 1993
That’s my dad’s tour bus on the left and that was Billy Ray Cyrus’s tour bus on the right… I’ve had an interesting life. Lots of unshared stories. There aren’t many pictures that exist from the 90s.
I miss you so much baby girl… Not a day goes by, not a day goes by, without you in my mind. I need you so much. I once asked “why did you leave me” but now I know depression took you. I’m sorry I lost the last letter you wrote me, I regret it everyday. All these years later, you were still the only thing I ever had.

13, the age I died. I just want to share my real story. Part of my journey. I wish I had one photo of us together, and so that’s why I’m obsessed with photographing everything now. The 90s. The best and worst decade ever with little photographic evidence.

Viking

Growing taller as I grow with fear
Shouting louder, before I disappear
He’s like lightning striking where I stand
He’s a viking with an iron hand

Defending hollow ground with all his might
Filled with lust and left without sight
Love is his sword, he’ll insert the blade
Deep is the longing but there can be no aid

He’ll tell you a story while he watches you bleed
He’ll lick your wound like it is a seed
But give him more to ease his shake
He’s growing strong while more of them break

Needs they are a plenty
Goes for girls that cost a penny
Ghosts roam his oasis
Masks are his only faces

Hello, Excuse Me

Hello, you don’t know me, but I was hoping you could be someone, well not just anyone, more like “the one”, because he’s permanently on my mind.

Your eyes must be blue
With reddish hair too
You’ve got to write poetry
You must be under 6 feet
And love me complete

Is this something you’d be into?
