Lit (a one-sentence story)

When he looks at you like you are the very fuse to which he is lit.

Big big feels.

Good morning from the land that always shines even though the sun hasn’t risen yet (AKA “the sunshine state”).

P.S. Jim Morrison was from Florida. He was such a California boy I forget that fact. “I dig the south”. “Let’s get tacos”.

Carry on…

The Fall

Words were never said
Eyes peering like cement
He could see the rise and fall of her chest
Feel the heat of her heart with every breath Moving across the cold air
Her feet sizzling from where she fell
Took iron strength just to stand and stare

He moved taking a step toward her
As her body slowly extended upward
Pulling her wings in tighter
She was a fighter

He towered her petite frame
His breathing was met with flame
Expelling from the side of his lip
He had sin wrapped around his hip

He cast a glare on her like an eclipse
She was a rare sight in holy mist
How far from heaven she did exist
To fall on hell to feel his kiss

His hoof moved a step closer in
It’s the closest to heaven he’s ever been
Her desire never smelled of sin
For love she fell and she’d do it again

It’s as if all time existed in one evening
Her eyes were wet with fear and seething
Or maybe the reflection was mere envy
Whatever it was, he only could stop the bleeding

His step was sturdy with blight
He didn’t want to fill her with fright
And having better intentions despite
He lowered a knee becoming her knight

Love came to him in a clump
She brought the world to him in just one jump
They stood on eternity though ground was a dump
And with only a smile she gave him a bump

To be continued…?

How does eternity feel?
I love you

What We Know

Everyone musta always been scavenging for food and water, typical supplies, but I was looking for the hidden stashes and bongs. I wanted medical grade marijuana, not that pharmaceutical junk. What they didn’t know was I had found a stash a few houses back, and I was still on the fence on whether I wanted them to know I had been looking for it. I had enough stress. My pain levels were at their max. I had grouped up with six others 2 nights ago, presumably most from the same neighborhood as I, or more importantly, mentally sound. Some had mentioned being vets, I could no longer trust anyone, and even my small group was suspect.

Here’s what we know. About 2 weeks ago an attack happened in the city, power was lost immediately following, cell communications down, radio and television silence, emergency service null.

So anyway, a couple days back I found a flavor jar under some kids bed, probably a teenager sixteen or 17, judging by the room. Signs of a struggle were seen throughout the condo, I fathom to ponder what has become of the owners of the unit. We lived and shared a fairly big neighborhood, yet barely lifted a chin of recognition when driving or walking by. But the kid had good taste with classic posters on his wall. When I saw the Floyd tapestries, I had hoped that there’d be some bud stashed away. And there was. I quickly pocketed it before the others could catch me.

Real Life War Stories on Tuners Radio

Hi y’all. For the first time ever I’m starting to share War Stories on my Tuners radio channel and the thread got a reply from Alexander Ebert!!! This might be the first time I’ve ever heard a guy say they want to hear my poetry, and it’s coming from my muse, stop the fucking press! 🤓 I was actually worried that it would be boring and a waste of time to share war stories, and maybe not the right time even but then I got a response from Alex and his reply is just amazing! I’ll have to scramble up my war poems but now I’m inspired to write an even better one. Talking about war is not something I normally do, but I’m starting to open up and share more on my Tuners so be sure you follow and tune in! It’s free to listen and use (you can even use it anonymously). I hope you give it a listen!

Love Beats On

“Stop! What are you doing?”, he demanded an answer holding a look of shock
Her face stained with black mascara and fear so thick she could hardly talk
He kneeled down beside her, their eyes in a gridlock
“I’ve learned you are the one and now it’s time to walk the walk”
Lips connected and fate started their heart clock

Love beats on…

Wrath

“I do terribly bad things”, she said with a saddened sorrow
“Spontaneous combustion”, Lu replied
She was gazing in her mirror, Lu was just behind
Leaning on her shoulder, like he was her beau

He goes places with her no other will go
He knows too many things he shouldn’t know
A mask to Lu is an open window
The thicker they get, the more that you owe

“My tongue is full of sin” she said
As she took a blade, her eyes were blood red
The cold steel on her neck, her gaze still ahead
With careful, quick precision, Lu swiped the blade from her hand, he was never much of a figurehead

“Terribly bad things”, as she crashed to the floor
A creature of the underworld, and she could take no more
Too many souls abandoned, what is she fighting for
If only love could be her savior

“Hey kid, they only fear your purity because they sin,
They act tough where their skin is thin,
They create chaos in an endless cycle they spin,
They search for winnings, where the devil will always win”

With a hand that swung with the thunder of Thor
With a face of refusal and ready for war
With her hand on the trigger and ready to score
Standing an inch from the devil she let out a roar

© Delia Ross. 2019

Do you ever feel like the devil is on your shoulder? That was sort of the goal for the bathroom mirror scene. Now’s he’s been all through the house. Time to see a priest, deep, dark thoughts abide. Maybe an exorcist too. Definitely could use spiritual cleansing from a psychic.

Cobwebs

He spins a web of confusion
He spews we are living in delusion
That won’t stop him from carrying on
His mask cannot hide his beacon

And without reason, I follow the action
I was taught love is twice bitten
Well, maybe his web leads to Eden
It matters not how many webs are spun

I crawl over fragmented dreams and broken bones
It makes me ponder how many hearts he owns
Are they easy to collect like clones
Does he cherish the ones dethroned from their thrones

The stickier the web, the heavier the bloodstones
The harder the heart, the more sinful the wrongs
The farther we part, the heavier the moans
The more you punish, the darker the zones

© Delia Ross. 2019

For the most part, I put all my darkness into my poetry, or my art, I wouldn’t actually bite his head off in real life… the follow unfollow routine might be annoying but seriously there are worse crimes. And I’m trying to refrain from allowing others to trigger me. I have written him so much beautiful rhyme, it would be a shame to focus on the few falls between. xxoo

A Visit From Lu Part 7

So there it was, Lu and I
Outstretched his hand an ally
There sat a truce within his eye
Another devil here to apologize

Once you’ve heard one lie you’ve heard them all
You can change the ending but you cannot stop the fall
You can change your perceptions but you’re still behind a wall
The only lies worth spinning are the ones you can’t recall

Lu has been there for me since the day that I was born
When my parents would beat me and my wings could not take form
As if it was his duty to sit with me and mourn
So deep down in the darkness that his feet would come to warn

There are some places angels aren’t meant to be
And it was during my lowest times Lu would come remind me
And it is always a fine line between heaven and hell I am walking
And there’s not a detail overlooked when the devil is talking

But the dark has come again and now Lu has arrived
But these really are his tunnels where we all reside
And even in this darkness my purity has thrived
I wonder if his prayers are the reason I survived

The words hello and goodbye never slip from my tongue
The sorrow feels deeper and long it was hung
The worry will linger where heart took a stung
And with very few words the devil just took a swung…

Oh my goodness y’all, Lu has been protecting her all of her life until now!?! What did he say to her? Why has he hurt her!?!

I’ve never tried writing like this before, my epic tragedy was written in one night after it came to me in a dream. I had an idea for a story (this one) and wanted to see if I could write a longer piece but I wanted it to be without rules and regulations and I wanted it to feel experimental. I haven’t written any rough drafts or used any of the prewriting techniques we were taught in school. I knew the basis for the story and I wanted it to feel open-world. I dig open world video games (I’m a huge gamer and I’ve been playing games since I was a little girl and it’s one reason I want to play Survivor CBS cuz game play matters and that’s the best game on fucking Earth and I’m getting ready to audition for a fourth time and the first rule of Survivor is never give up). Anyhoo. This has been a huge challenge for me and I can’t believe I’m already into part 7. Sometimes I just want to quit writing cuz I’m nowhere good as the people who admire me the most, even my best isn’t comparable. But I try so hard… in pretty much every aspect of my life. To fail over and over again. But that’s life, failing and getting back up again to fail again. *sigh*

A Visit From Lu Part 6

Father of Lies, Angel of Light, Crooked Serpent, Prince of Darkness, Satan, but you can call me Luci;
Now that you are getting to know me.
Antichrist, Beelzebub, Wicked One, there are so many,
Little Horn, King of Babylon, (I can go on), Abaddon, the Devil, the Most Unclean-
Whatever my name, there is another three.

Yet with all these names, so many will not believe
I am a carrier of light, shifting like transparency
The world is full of doubt, a goal I did achieve
It is mostly certain now, I am here to deceive

Temptation is the game, what is it that you envy?
Write out the list, I know the need
Your soul and bones, are full of greed
A buffet of sins, like gluttony

What is it that has you eyed?
How do you sleep at night while your tongue is tied?
Underneath the mask, there is so much pride,
Every word you speak, I know when you lied.

Centuries of fury, casting out your wrath
The demons are many, you haven’t done the math
If you think hell is empty, why did you choose this path?
If you think your hands are clean, from here I see a bloodbath

A sloth rampant with a taste for lust
How easy you pick them out with tongues of trust
And damnation covers your soul in a thick, wicked crust
I watch the irony rush over like a face that is flushed

A character drawing of Lu, I managed to squeeze in many of the names he goes by, the definition of Lu, as well as the seven deadly sins. Hope you enjoyed…

P.S. I never call Lu by his full name, I don’t know if you have ever picked up on that.

A Visit From Lu Part 4

I don’t know how but it slipped my mind
And the devil’s first trick was well designed
I guess purgatory belongs to mankind
A week now has passed that I cannot rewind

He checked his watch, it must be a quarter past 3
And it’s been 2 days now he hasn’t heard from me
And for a change he turned on that dusty TV
In hopes to scramble thoughts he had been thinking

And somewhere in that tube the news was all the same
There’s chaos in the streets and the devil is to blame
There’s violence in the feed and no one feels ashamed
Repentance is for souls the devil can’t reclaim

The scientists claim that it is global warming
The bible warned God brought down the flooding
Revelations hint of a second coming
The devil bets the world thinks God is bluffing

He takes a shot of whiskey while changing the channel
The voices mumble ‘there’s nothing we can’t handle’
And now the weather is showing that flights are cancelled
But none of these things can take his mind off his angel

He checks again his computer and phone
He’s tried a hundred times her location is unknown
And he feels the worry sink into his bone
Her last message sent said she wasn’t alone

Oh my goodness, if you are an atheist, I am in no way trying to convert you and if you are religious this is in no way factual, it’s just fantasy. And if I can get to where I’m going with it, it’s an end of the world love story with themes of angels and devils and humans and whatever other stuffs I dream up. So far there’s at least four characters in the story, if you were to count technology as an entity (the tv voices, clocks/time, etc) and there’s a particular mood and tone and flow I am trying to keep throughout, not to mention I’m attempting this in poetry format, with some 24 lines each chapter/part (6/4). PHEW, IT’S TUFFS. (And I see people get likes on post that say nothing at all but skip giving me any praise for attempting something meaningful). We all run the same halls in hell. Whatev. If you like cool, if you don’t oh well. I still put up effort all the same. 👍✌

*It’s really scary me sharing this stuff, anything I do, I feel raw and exposed and inadequate as is, there’s always that fear of failure, that it isn’t good enough*

A Visit From Lu Part 3

Lu entered my door bringing despair
He had it gift wrapped for extra flair
He covered it in agony to make it look rare
He had a look of concern but I know he didn’t care

So there we were both grinning –
Like in a game of chess but the devil’s always winning
The only hand I play is a joker never sinning
The only life I live is the one I’m never living

As Lu drew nearer he sat upon my table
Like an uninvited guest who should leave but isn’t able
And I am starting to feel very unstable
But my doubt only makes Lu more grateful (and we sat there through April)

Now the window shows that it is winter
And the fear is growing in my center
And all this doubt makes my tongue bitter
The devil got under me without lifting a finger

It’s like if I move a piece I’ll open Pandora’s box
And you know the devil can crawl just watch how he talks
And you know the devil can dance just watch how he walks
And you know the devil is purgatory just watch all the clocks

I’m damned if I do and I’m damned if I don’t
Whatever move, Lu will condone
He is a step ahead, anytime I’m wrong
How do you knock a devil off of a throne

To be continued!?!

Oh my goodness, 3 was a challenge! Notice how the devil seems to be moving his way throughout my house/life in this series? The underlining theme in chapter 3 is depression (purgatory). As well as, how we need to be careful about the choices we make in life. I didn’t set out for it to be this way, it’s just how the story developed. I hope you likey (the 5th stanza is my favorite)! 😊

A Visit From Lu Part 2

Now it is true Lu has been after me since about 1978
Ever since I fled the compounds of those Pearly gates
Restricted to forever yet I castrated my own fate
I fell beyond the heavens to see what love I could create

“Alright, enough with the charades”, Lu had finally said
“Why did you call me here” as he leaned across my bed
And I a child started giggling until my face was turning red
But careful is the food I chew when it’s the devil passing bread

It was in this moment that both our eyes connected
I often wondered how many souls he had collected
Which of the seven sins had the best method
And was the numbers what they both expected

Those numbers won’t mean anything, if Lu can’t collect, both of my wings
Black as onyx, soft as silk, one feather would please all the kings
There’s unspoken pleasures that my feather brings
There’s only one in the world with the deed to these blessings

“First off Lu, I never called you here”
“If I were to pray now, it would be for you to disappear
My soul is not for bargain, let me make it clear –
I seem to remind you year after year…”

And now he knows I am speaking truth
Honesty, it’s what earned my wings of youth
He knows lying here, will never be of use
It is why I’m such a challenge and one he cannot lose

How are you liking this fantasy religion stuffs? Should I continue the story with part 3? I’ve been sort of taking the long way around, so I haven’t really got to the bread-and-butter yet. 😄

Really dig the last line in the 2nd stanza tho, I did goods there, right? 🤔 Made it worth writing part two me thinks.

A Visit From Lu

I guess you could say we are acquainted
We had similar falls, our wings are tainted
But now I am older and my sins have faded
And though it’s been decades, Lu has gladly waited

He knows I don’t like him coming around these quiet parts
But that doesn’t stop Lu from having a heart-to-heart
He may own the land but I have the right to depart
But the places I am going, may require some charts

He never knocks, he just enters the room
And my temperament goes from glad to gloom
The air gets colder as it’s filled with doom
I turn away and mumble, “I don’t wanna talk with you”

Lu takes a seat and starts whistling, “What I’m about to tell you might be chilling”
As I was headed to the door proudly not listening,
Lu started hissing

My step slowed and nearly faltered
From the snake gripping down under
And now the moment felt awkward
As I wondered this time what Lu offered

The thing we had most in common was our grin
Which is odd, given that, it should be sin
But when it comes to purity, I’m the best that’s ever been
And I heard him hissing “favorite” with the moonlight shining in (he’s at it again)…

50 Word Short Story Poetry

Years passed on and he always wondered how she got on with her life
But one evening, word finally returned, she ended her life that night
When he asked of her body, her grave, they said it was the ocean
She was never recovered from the boat she jumped, “there wasn’t a note son…”

© Delia Ross. 2019

So, thank you so much for 25,000 visits to this here blog cuz it just surpassed 25K! Woah. I wanted to write a 50 word short story in poetry format and since it’s October or nearly Halloween, I went with a death/ horror theme. I wanted to see how much impact I could give a poem with as little information about the characters as possible. I wanted there to be a sense of doom but also a feeling of empathy and unresolved questions. Like, did it make you wonder what happened to them? Just like he wondered all those years what happened to her. Did he imagine she was better off without him? Did he wonder if she was happy all those years? Does it make you wonder who they were to each other? Did you feel sad or gutted for him receiving such tragic news? Did you feel empathy or loss for him? Could you feel the mood or “put yourself in his shoes”?

By the way, I didn’t count the “the”, “and”, or “a”.

Can you write a 50 word short story too? I challenge you to do so, and brownie points if you can pull it off in poetry format. It doesn’t have to be a Halloween or horror theme, but if you’re up for the double challenge? I’m sure these 50 word short story thingys exist but I just came up with the idea of doing one in poetry format and Halloween themed. If my little story moved you, hit that like button or drop me a comment. And definitely let me know if you do the challenge. 👻👻👻

Rain

It is a light, warm rain, so it doesn’t matter
And the moon tonight is full as are your lips
And your eyes are staring at me like I’m her
A feeling that I’ve never had occur

And the only sounds we hear are mostly beats
And it’s getting louder every time we breathe
There’s some danky music far away in the streets
And the rain is louder falling at our feet

The trees are gently sighing with the wind
I whispered in your ear don’t let it end
But I knew that you would ask so I said it again
And as I was repeating you made a grin

I gently started shaking in the rain
It’s like you just released me from my chain
Or maybe just release from all the pain
And tears were the main attraction at this stage

Your fingertips remind me I’m okay
But closer to your lips I start to sway
And then your thumb will wipe my tears away
And neither have a thing we want to say

© Delia Ross. 2019

Sometimes connections are more than just sexual. Deeper connections require more work sure but isn’t the chemistry richer, the moments more meaningful, the things unsaid but everything said, I dunno, love is a rare element and shouldn’t you care for it and nurture it like a garden? Flesh kills the spirit if in the wrong hands. You believe it?

The Kiss

I have this dream where we don’t talk
I’m in an alley having a cigarette
Waiting on a favorite band
And you appear

And I ask ‘what are you doing here’
But sweetly so no other can hear
There’s no one around just the rain
You stand and never explain

I smile anyway without regret
And you haven’t moved closer yet
And in a cloak your eyes are in pain
But I still smile anyway

I’m on the wall under a small balcony
Avoiding getting wet
Your hands are in your pockets
You don’t look as though upset

As the rain gets started
You move and take a step
And it kind of felt like lightening
My heart it felt it best

The patter of the rain –
Grew louder with every footstep
And every inch closer – I forgot more – of the alphabet

You get close to me and lightly touch my fingertips
And then you lift up my arm and take a puff of my cigarette

Your other hand still touching my other hand
You lift my head and kiss my lips
It’s hard to explain it
I thought I was alive but it was really the first thing I ever felt

Stone

Moving forward, turning corners, never finding home
Keep listening, less speaking, and most are always wrong
I go the distance that few ever roam
Universal lessons seem to keep me on my own
Often these tribulations can only be learned alone
Weakened and discouraged I’ll stop but not for long
My heart more calloused and hard like bone
Whatever it takes to keep me strong
With the wisdom of knowing that looking back can turn me to stone

And so this lesson I pack up and carry
The weight of them always seems to vary
Some are black and some are cherry
Some will taste like a strawberry
Some will make you say Hail Mary
Some are found in the morning obituary
Most will leave you cold and weary
With eyes that sting and oh so blurry
These streets have roadkill of doubt and worry

Self-medicate to try and heal
And get the energy to climb uphill
Another battle of self-will
Another demon I have to kill
Swallow the pain just like a pill
Buried deep so I can’t feel
There’s mostly lows and little thrill
And not an exit out of here
By now my soul is feeling ill
The answers are never clear

Tie my boot without goodbye
Can’t sit around to watch me cry
More of those with every sigh
If you could open it and peer inside
It would likely appear tie-dye
Like an endless horizon in the sky
Pinks and purples which mystify
There my soul longs to fly
Not depths of low but certain high
And now not a tear in my eye

You’ll never get close to me
I live by this decree
Very few are ever worthy
But God has a skeleton key
Buried under a Joshua Tree
Searching will leave you thirsty
The depths I’ve cried fill up a sea
And by this I’m already drowning
It’s past my knee
But the undertow came quickly

Made in Heaven (Movie Recommendation)

Made in Heaven has been my favorite love story and film since I was 10 years old. It’s currently available to watch for free on Vudu. It’s from 1987 and you shouldn’t even watch a preview, you should just go watch the film. If it doesn’t pull on your heartstrings, then you’re probably not alive.

It’s one of the most beautiful stories ever written and I cry every single time I watch it. It ruined me on love. In a good way.

I decided I’m going to write a poem about it, in fact, I’ve already started.

So if you’d like to watch a really really good movie, that isn’t based on sex, drugs, horror, and rock and roll, but is an actual good story with thriving characters, and a soaring cast, go check it out. You can thank me later. Get your tissues ready though. sniff sniff

The film is PG.

Can you handle a PG movie or are you so desensitized from modern movies?

If you do watch it, will you let me know what you think about it? 😇

That ending scene, OH MY HEART.

I feel like watching it twice tonight.

Tried

Tried to climb the mountains but they were too high
The air became askew and I wasn’t able to cry

Tried to bury my fears down there under the hill
But the ground became so cold I wasn’t able to feel

Tried to hide my pain way out in the desert
But I lost my way and so no longer hurt

Tried to drown my tears somewhere in the ocean
But my head became dizzy and I lacked the emotion

Tried to cover my fears underneath the moon
But they always remain open and I’m never immune

Tried to close the chapter and forget about you
I tried, but I love you too much to

The Tale and Trauma of Satine

Satine was born in the dark ages, a very long time ago in the township of “Blackwood” whereto her mother had lived and died.
Unbeknownst of her parents, her mother died during childbirth of Satine. Her mother had been bitten by a vampire while Satine was still in the wound.
Satine never knew of her mother and father, and was abandoned as a child, for the people feared her or what she may become. She was sent away to live in the Carpathian Mountains far away.
There she became skilled amongst her powers, training in martial arts, strategic war tactics, and healing.

A thing of abandonment seeped fear in her heart.
Presumably, her vampiric father watched over her, for Satine had dreams and visions that would abound her. Did he want her dead? Was he in attendance to help her, psychologically?
During her training, she met a Prince by the name of Vladimir. He would teach her many things, among philosophy and majik. Vlad seemed notable of the people, high in court. Yet feared among many.

This brought desire in Satine to return to her home village, learn of its people, of her mother’s grave (hidden behind the church), and seek out her father.

Part human, part vampire, part light, part dark, Satine may prove to be the savior of her village. Upon her arrival, she found the people in disarray. Panic reigned here. Blood towered the streets. Trusty no one was.
Satine seeks love, part of her human condition. She may be vilified by its admission.
She grows week with apathy, bloodlust, and a demoniac affiliation.
She sleeps beyond the church in her mother’s shallow grave.

“Remember, sometimes you need the dark to battle the dark. So do not discourage those who suffer from its apathy.” – Satine
